According to Tom's Hardware, citing Bloomberg, the meeting took place over the weekend at Samsung's Resources Development Center in Yongin. Samsung Korea confirmed it and said the two sides discussed the direction of AI technology development, its applications, and new markets and business opportunities. The talks built on an existing letter of intent between the companies to cooperate on AI infrastructure, including supplying memory chips for the Stargate project.

The visit comes days after Altman said on a podcast that DRAM inside personal computers is often underused and that data centers could make better use of it. The remarks drew criticism. According to the report, Altman also gave the head of Samsung's AI Center a Codex Micro keyboard, a device designed for use with OpenAI's coding agent.

According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung and SK hynix held about 63% of global DRAM revenue and about 83% of HBM revenue in the second quarter of 2026. AMD CEO Lisa Su visited South Korea earlier this month to discuss securing more HBM supply from Samsung. It has not been reported whether Altman's visit will lead to a new supply agreement.
