According to the European Commission, like the other participating states, Canada will get access to EuroHPC's computing, AI and quantum computing resources, and Canadian scientists will be able to collaborate with European counterparts on projects in these fields. Canada has been associated with the Horizon Europe research programme since 2024.
EuroHPC has already procured 12 supercomputers across Europe, oversees 19 "AI Factories" and 13 AI Factory Antennas that offer free support to small companies and startups, and is deploying a quantum computing infrastructure that integrates European quantum computers with existing supercomputers. Its governing board includes the Commission and 39 participating states.
At the summit it was also agreed that Destination Earth, the EU's digital twin of the planet, will cooperate with Canada on AI-powered climate modelling. The Commission did not publish the financial terms of the membership.
