Our commitment

Annanim News is a technology and AI news site from Annanim AI. We treat accessibility as part of the journalism itself: a story that cannot be read, heard or operated from a keyboard is a story that was never published. The site was built from the start so that people with disabilities – visual, hearing, motor or cognitive – can use it independently, on any device and with any assistive technology.

The standard we follow

The site is built to meet the Israeli Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility Adjustments) Regulations, 2013, and Israeli Standard IS 5568 "Web content accessibility", which adopts the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. It is checked with an automated audit (axe-core, no violations) and by hand for keyboard navigation, contrast, zoom and narrow-screen layout, in current desktop and mobile browsers.

What has been done

  • Full semantic structure: ordered headings, labelled navigation and content landmarks, and a "Skip to content" link at the top of every page.
  • Complete keyboard access: every link, button and field has a clear focus indicator and the tab order follows the reading order. There are no keyboard traps.
  • The featured-story carousel and the moving headline strip can be stopped with a visible button, pause on hover and keyboard focus, and do not move at all when the operating system asks for reduced motion. The lightning in the sky fires only on an automatic story change and stops with it.
  • Colour contrast of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text and interface components, including text placed over the sky photograph (via a dark backing layer).
  • Alternative text for every content image (the story title or the source title); decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Language and direction are marked on every passage in another language, so screen readers pronounce Hebrew inside an English page, and vice versa, correctly.
  • The site can be zoomed to 200% and viewed at a width of 320 pixels without losing content or needing horizontal scrolling.
  • External links say that they open the source site in a new tab; every form field has a label; every page has a unique title.
  • A built-in accessibility toolbar (not a third-party overlay) with larger text, high contrast, link highlighting, stopping motion and a readable font.
  • No cookies, no tracking, no ads; your toolbar choices are stored in your own browser only.

The accessibility toolbar and the keyboard

The "Accessibility" button sits in the bottom corner of every page (left in English, right in Hebrew). Clicking it, or reaching it with Tab and pressing Enter, opens a panel with: text size (normal, large, larger), high contrast, link highlighting, stopping all motion and animations, and a readable, spaced-out font. Esc closes the panel and returns focus to the button. "Reset settings" restores the defaults.

  • Tab / Shift+Tab – move between links, buttons and fields.
  • Enter – follow a link or press a button; Space – tick a box or press a button.
  • In the story carousel: the left and right arrow keys change the story, Home and End jump to the first and last one, and the pause button stops the automatic rotation.
  • The first link on every page is "Skip to content".

Known limitations

  • Story images come from the source sites (their own preview images) and are not under our control; we add alternative text from the story title but cannot vouch for the graphic itself.
  • The source articles we link to are on external sites whose accessibility is not under our control.
