Apple adds an AI assistant to Pages, Keynote and Numbers, plus MCP support for third-party agents

Apple is adding an AI assistant to Pages, Keynote and Numbers, built on models from Apple and OpenAI and able to understand a document's context. According to The Verge, the assistant is rolling out in beta to Apple Intelligence devices, and the apps now support the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27.

According to the report, in Keynote the assistant can design, animate and refine slides; in Pages it can draft, restructure and edit text; and in Numbers it can calculate, visualize and organize data, suggest chart types and build custom tables. It works on devices running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 and later.

Support for the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27 and later lets third-party AI agents plug into the three apps. Apple is also updating other creative apps: Pixelmator Pro gets Generate Fill for editing part of an image by description, and Logic Pro gets an AI assistant that Apple says can set up a vocal track from a single prompt and edit existing projects.

According to The Verge, the updates to Apple's Creator Studio will be available to existing subscribers for free in November. The report does not specify which OpenAI models the assistant uses or how user data is handled.
