Chips: Chinese memory maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is pressing ahead with an alternative chip architecture called 4F², which US rival Micron has chosen to bypass. According to the South China Morning Post, the Hefei-based company plans to send customers samples of its first server-grade DRAM product built on the architecture by the end of this year, as it tries to pack more data onto silicon under cost and US constraints.
Design tools: Empyrean Technology, China's top provider of electronic design automation (EDA) tools, said in a Shenzhen Stock Exchange filing that it will buy 50.38% of domestic start-up Easy-Logic Technology for 218.8 million yuan (about $33 million). According to the SCMP, the deal reinforces Beijing's drive for tech self-sufficiency and supports Huawei's chip ambitions.
AI: according to a report by the China Centre for Information Industry Development (CCID), which operates under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the amount of data AI systems in China generate at inference has for the first time surpassed the amount of data used to train them. The SCMP says the figure shows AI being adopted in China at scale.
