Very few people are using personal AI agents to book Uber rides. On its third-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, the company said only four rides were ordered through an AI agent during its busiest week in October, the week of Halloween.
According to TechCrunch, CFO Balaji Krishnamurthy said Uber handled about 320 million trips and orders across Uber and Uber Eats that week, and only 500 Uber Eats orders were placed by an agent. "It is very, very early and very limited traction that we are seeing so far," CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said.
Khosrowshahi noted that booking a ride in the app takes 50 seconds on average, and reordering a favorite meal 90 seconds. DoorDash also said last week that it has received only a few hundred orders from AI agents so far.
Despite the numbers, Khosrowshahi said the company sees agents as another way to reach its platform, and expects the number of major AI assistants, about eight today, to grow to more than ten.
