Hangzhou-based Nanochap, which develops brain-computer interfaces for vision restoration, announced a RMB 500 million (about $70 million) Series C+ round on November 3. Gaorong Ventures led the round, with participation from investors including PICC Equity, Monolith and C&D Emerging Industry Investment. It is the company's second round this year and brings its total funding to RMB 1 billion.

Founded in 2014, the company develops neural chips and implant systems along two paths: stimulating the retina and directly stimulating the brain's visual cortex. According to the company, its 320-channel retinal interface has entered clinical trials, and three participants have received implants.

A separate 1,280-channel visual-cortex interface is still under development, with clinical validation planned. The company has not published results from the clinical trial.
