AWS grew 39% in the quarter, and Jassy says Amazon's capital spending will rise significantly in 2027

On Amazon's earnings call on Thursday, CEO Andy Jassy said AWS has reached a $184 billion annualized revenue run rate and can grow more than 40% in both 2027 and 2028. Capital expenditure in 2026 is expected to reach about $220 billion and to grow further next year.

According to TechCrunch, AWS revenue rose 39% from the year-earlier quarter, the sixth straight quarter of steady growth. Jassy repeated his ambition for AWS to become a business with a trillion dollars in annual revenue "in the next five to 10 years".

Amazon still expects 2026 cash capex of about $220 billion, mostly for AWS, and "meaningfully more" in 2027. Analysts repeatedly asked about the justification for the spending and the expected margins; Jassy described the AI boom as a "once in a lifetime opportunity" and said the company can fund the plan.

Investors were not convinced: the stock fell about 6% in after-hours trading on Thursday. The report does not detail Amazon's total revenue and profit for the quarter.
