Intel: Nova Lake will use the 18A-P process, and Panther Lake capacity will shift to server chips

On the third-quarter earnings call, CEO Lip-Bu Tan confirmed that Nova Lake will be the first client product on the 18A-P process, with more details at CES in January. The CFO expects the PC market to shrink about 12% in 2026 and the client business to fall more than 20% next quarter.

According to Tom's Hardware, Tan said Nova Lake is "tracking ahead of schedule" and that design wins are expected to be twice those of Panther Lake at launch. According to Intel, 18A-P offers 9% more speed at the same power, or 18% less power at the same speed, compared with 18A. It is still unclear whether the whole chip will be made on 18A-P or only some of its tiles.

CFO David Zinsner said the company is taking 18A wafers that were meant for Panther Lake offline to free capacity for Granite Rapids server chips. He said demand for Wildcat Lake is outstripping supply, and that 18A products now make up a third of client CPU revenue, up from less than 5% in the first quarter.

Zinsner expects the PC market to shrink about 12% in 2026, more than 20% in the second half, and roughly another 10% in 2027. He said there will be no recovery until memory availability improves and prices normalize.
