According to TechCrunch, the OpenAI figure appears in Microsoft's regulatory filing on Wednesday and includes revenue-sharing payments. Total revenue for the quarter, the first of Microsoft's fiscal 2027, was $92.3 billion. For all of fiscal 2026, revenue from OpenAI reached $24.1 billion. Outstanding receivables from OpenAI for previous transactions rose to $7.2 billion from $6 billion at the end of June, and Microsoft's ownership stake in OpenAI fell from about 25% to about 24%. How much of the revenue came from revenue sharing and how much from Azure services was not disclosed.
Until now Microsoft had reported only growth rates for Azure. Revenue of $33.2 billion for the quarter was about $850 million above analyst expectations, and the 48% growth rate beat the 44% to 45% that CFO Amy Hood forecast in July. Azure accounts for roughly 36% of the company's revenue.
Azure now sits in a new segment called Agents and Infra, which groups it with Microsoft 365's cloud business and brought in $76.8 billion, up 25%. Alphabet, which reported the same day, said Google Cloud brought in $30.7 billion in the quarter. Amazon reports on Thursday.
